‍The Far Side of Reason reflects on the fundamental tension between perception and reality; fact and purpose; subject and object; culture and nature; and underlines the paradoxes of human existence and questions a dualistic vision of the world in favor of a possible synthesis. The exhibition brings together both existing and new works that deliver the investigative nature of this query and Troika’s practice.

Starting from the premise that scientific method gave rise to a mechanistic society where logic and reason stand in strict opposition to the subjective, intuitive and sensitive part of man, Troika offers us an insight into these apparent paradoxes and disentangles the purpose of science, in favor of exploring the intimate arena of the unexplainable.

Squaring a Circle (2013) argues how every method of inquiry reveals a particular facet of the truth: the two seemingly antithetical geometrical forms find reconciliation for only an instant, allowing for a diversity of embodiments and interpretations. Hierophany (2013) acknowledges and contemplates the complexity of mathematical interactions through visual means; Falling Light (2010) explores the intersection of human nature and technology; Suspension of Disbelief (2013) suggests a synthesis between agnostic reason and intuitive belief, while the Light Drawings series (2012) examines the willful submission to the unknown applying control over what is inherently uncontrollable.

Since 2003, Troika has created a body of work through observation, dialogue, research and ‘trial and error’, revealing the limits of rational thought as a wondrous and unique asset of the human mind to decipher our reality.
