This is an exhibition [Deseo, deseo] of drawing and painting that I completed during a residency I did over the summer. The exhibition comes after a four-year process, where I asked myself how to reconnect with the joy of creating. I have been training as a draftsman and painter since I was very young, from the ages of 13 or 14, when I began drawing the human body—a theme that has always interested me and is central to my work. In this residency, I decided to create this series of paintings, which gradually revealed the main theme to me: connecting with the idea of desire.
The exhibition is divided into two parts. On the ground floor, we have about 10 paintings displayed in front of a cosmic mural. And on the upper floor, also around 10 drawings or graphic works, all sharing the same theme of desire.
This drawing here is called The Cosmic Progenitor. It serves as a foundation for one of the paintings below, which is the most prominent one, placed on the main wall, where we see a woman giving birth to the cosmos. For me, this idea obviously comes from my interest in desire, but it is also inspired by the literature of feminist writers and thinkers who have influenced me greatly, like Donna Haraway or Audre Lorde with her text The Uses of the Erotic, where they talk about desire not merely as a pornographic or simply erotic idea, but as a life force, primarily feminine in nature, that connects us with our most vital part.
